Frustrated with my career trajectory, I wanted to transition into a different role or  industry. However, it became quickly apparent as I began my job search that the skills and knowledge I had gained over the last 6 years were not very easily transferable.

Do I start over in a new entry level role? Will I have to take a pay cut? Of course, but how much? Will I have to adjust my family’s lifestyle? Are there any certifications I could obtain to make a lateral move? Do I go back to school?

These and so many other questions plagued me. Fortunately, an opportunity did present itself in a much more fast-driven, operations type environment at my employer. This was a position with more responsibility, challenges and less support and due to HR restrictions, it would be a lateral move.

I decided to take the risk and make the move. As it turns out, this was the right move for me.

However, the thought remained with me, if I had this experience, there must be thousands of others who have had or may be having this experience.

Thus, the idea of SquareOne Careers was born.
